Sheltered Care Environment Scale (SCES)
Instrument Description:
The Sheltered Care Environment Scale (SCES) assesses seven dimensions of the social environments of residential settings for older adults, such as community nursing homes, residential care facilities, and congregate apartments.
The SCES is one part of a more comprehensive Multiphasic Environmental Assessment Procedure (MEAP), which focuses on the physical and architectural features, policies and services, and characteristics of the residents and staff in residential settings for older adults. Norms are based on 262 community nursing homes, residential care facilities, and congregate apartments and 81 facilities in the Department of Veterans Affairs.
